aDUBta / Roots Organization: A Tale Of Dubbing Horns

The Roots organization from the Styrian capital Graz impressed me with their first EP “Strictly Recreational“. A year later, in October 2022, the album “A Tale Of Skanking Horns“ (Ginkgo Tree Music), a long player with instrumental reggae, the finest jazzy brass sections and solos, on which the Roots organization once again knew how to convince brilliantly and carried you away from the first note. Memories of the forefathers of the genre – the Skatalites – were awakened. The riddims are powerful and bursting with energy. There are also countless finely crafted brass sections with a lot of force. This sound comes into its own best when the brass instruments are used at the same time. There are really musicians at work here who masterfully understand how to create wonderful moods and tension in the Graz Stress Studio. In addition to the 8-piece band including brass, guests included Fabian Supancic on the organ (Tracks 2 & 8), Michael Leitner on the violin (Track 7) and Andreas “aDUBta” Bauer on the percussions.

With aDUBta has now come full circle, as the albums mentioned above have already been produced, mixed and mastered by him. A year and a half later, aDUBta made “A Tale Of Skanking Horns” again. Of the original ten tracks, “A Tale Of Dubbing Horns“ six of aDUBta one Dub-subjected to treatment, decelerated properly and lowered a whole corner. The mastering was done by a “certain” Umberto Echo, who is here in the Dubblog is no stranger.
In my opinion, the Roots organization has achieved its next great success. Excellently well thought out all around Dub with a lot of relaxation potential. A really excellent album, which is unfortunately far too short, as four tracks from the original album were unfortunately not includeddubbt were!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Actually everything was done perfectly, good instrumental tracks and arrangements, the best production level... but it still doesn't spark anything for me, in short, it's too clean and slick.
Decades ago, in one of the first casting music shows, Chris Von Rohr (yes, the bassist of the hard rock group Krokus, who always walks around with a headscarf) made the simple statement “Meh Dräck” a legendary, much-quoted exclamation ( at least in little Switzerland)!
That's exactly what it is for me:
“Meh Dräck!” would be good for the sound in my opinion.
Well, then I'll go take a shower...

Luckily we have different tastes. For example, I like this Dubmix from aDUBI really like it the way it is – I don’t need “meh pressure” at all. To my ears this is and remains a very fine album.

My criticism is at a high level and I would like to like the album a lot (I wouldn't even go so far as to say that I don't like the album), but as I wrote, the spark doesn't jump out for me due to some individual feeling ...there is something (that I cannot put into words) that prevents this excellent piece of music from playing continuously on my imaginary turntable...

If I had been completely spontaneous, I would have complained about the bass lines again straight away. But in this case, I would say that you can get used to the bass lines very quickly and the more I read the story about them dubThe more I listen to the big horns, the more I realize that this is also a gem DubCannaisseurs act. The bass lines still give me a little bevel shift, but basically I can love them exactly as they are.
To be honest, I don’t need “more pressure”. The Dubs are controlled at the highest level for my taste and also give me the necessary “effect bling bling”. And I swear that at that moment I really forgot that a certain Umberto Echo was responsible for the mastering. The man just knows how to make music sound really good. In any case, I agree exactly with him. The album (EP) sounds brilliant and even though I can handle “meh Dräck” just as well, I appreciate it just as much when it pampers my ear canals and massages my soul so flawlessly and with elegant polish.
It's still like it was at the beginning! The DubBlog just doesn't have time for bad ones Dubs ;-)

So long………………… lemmi

"And here comes the Dub version!”
Speaking of “more pressure”:
What allow aDUBta? Unfortunately I forgot to complain about that above.
"Dubbing Over” may even have the best and trickiest bass line.
In general, that would be my topDub on the EP but I have to find some hard and tough words here.
“AM I ABOUT THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD; THE CHECKS; HOW STUPID DOES THIS STUPID BEEPING COME AWAY?!?
I ONLY KNOW SUCH NONCH FROM NORTHERN FRUSTRATED KNOW-ITS; THEY MEAN; YOU HAVE TO CENSORE OR OTHERWISE DEFECT CERTAIN THINGS; OR FINISHED WITH MEH DRÄCK?”
That can not be true ! For me this is simply no longer a question of taste. Dub It's not a child's birthday!

I just mean…………………. lemmi

By the way ……. I don't mean you, Philipp! You would also like “meh Dräck” but I think I can handle the “Dräck” you mean too ;-)

Try judah is calling from a. over 10 years agodubta. Anyone who still complains can no longer be helped. To be honest, this album didn't blow me away, but it's nice if it's finer in CSU-infested Bavaria Dub is produced. Go take a shower too...
