Dactah Chando meets RSD: Guardians of Dub Volume II

After Volume I, as is well known, Volume II follows and that is also the case with Dactah Chando. The former was mixed up by Umberto Echo quite nicely, but very well (to avoid the bad word "conservative"), like colleague Wynands in his review lets through a bit too subtle for my taste. At "Guardian of Dub Volume II“(Achinech Productions) should obviously have a different vibe - and lo and behold, Rob Smith aka RSD is setting the tone this time.

First of all: The Dubs are not new, but - as you can see from the information on this - were created during the recording of "Wisdom"And his counterpart"Sabiduria Roots". Roberto Sanchez had his fingers in the game as producer on both albums - which is surprising, because his typical, musical handwriting cannot be recognized. Rob Smith was also involved in the recordings at the time - his sound is mainly present on the more dancehall-heavy “Sabiduria” tracks; and it is he who is responsible for the Dub-Mixes of "Guardians of Dub Vol. II ”is responsible.

Well stands Robert Smith for its own world of sound, which comes across as rather sparse and monotonous in terms of instrumentation and variety of sounds. This is also confirmed on the new album - at least with the first three tracks, which you can safely skip. From number 4 the whole thing tilts in the direction of roots with live instrumentation and suddenly there is room for an imaginative sound journey using astonishing DubEffects. But not for Rob Smith; he does not use the opportunity and is more or less limited to a small dose of reverb and rather inconspicuous echoes here and there. The recordings themselves offer potential for an acoustic adventure - but if the mixer doesn't want it, then there's none.

What remains? 12 very cleanly produced, almost sterile sounding tracks Dub-Sounds that are quite usable from track 4, but ultimately sound flat even after frequent listening (despite a good punch on the drums) and do not reveal any new nuances. Too bad - there is still hope for a Vol. III, for which I Roberto Sanchez as Dub-Mixer nominate.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Yes, it's probably my daily form again. With Volume 1 of Umberto I wasn't really flashed by them either Dubs, as I can see from my comments there. Above all, it was only available as a data package, so I was only looking for as many weak points as possible and above all I was “bothered” by the “staid” mix. I was missing a little bit of the "herb component". Yes, here too there is little to do with the "DubNipples “screwed, in contrast to Mad Professor with Frente Combiero, which I heard again on the weekend. That is the pure DubIt's crazy for me what's going on. (Or was my stuff just too good?)… ..
Today I am gentle as a lamb and I don't necessarily need another one Dubthunderstorm. Because on the one hand I am very positively surprised that the drums don't sound as "nasty" as I usually know from Rob Smith and on the other hand I was very pleasantly touched by the riddims (especially the BassLines). Even if it's just remakes, the BassLine (the riddim) of Sabiduria II and III pulled me under its irresistible spell. I have such a relaxed feeling that I could put my feet behind my ears with every new run, that's how relaxed I get.
The DubSo for me, s are quite - in some cases even very - useful.
It's probably just my imagination, but I have a feeling that Rob Smith has taken some of my comments to heart. Because I think it's very beneficial that the drums here, especially from track 4 onwards DubDisc worthy. And don't sound as if they should also run to the warm-up in the opening act for David Getter (but he also has to be used for everything bad for me). Is a little exaggerated but that's how I feel. What do so many say DubWizzards over Dub ?! "DUB IS SOUND ART “!!! Yes, and it's all about KlangKunst, Guardiens Of Dub Vol. II. (With david getter I haven't heard anything from KlangKunst…. Why I don't like him? Well, he just annoys me with everything that he has presented to me so far and therefore I don't give him a single cent he deserves more than, for example, a Leroy “Horsemouth“ Wallace or any other musician from Jamaica / No, that's not envy, that's total resentment on my part / …… oops, I just notice that the gentle lamb is in me adopted).

Ok, that was my “word for Wednesday” …………………. lemmi

Do you mean David Guetta, that DJ who does dance-pop-boom-boom things? The comparison would be a bit far-fetched - but yes, the average Rob Smith track (here mainly 1 and 2 and yes, about 3 as well) is already aimed at the dance (hall) community. It is all the more astonishing that from number 4 onwards you can no longer recognize his handwriting (especially the hectic drum computer and the nerve synth bass) and there is a certain Roots serenity.

I don't even feel the need to spell his name correctly.
And in any case, "the comparison" is very far-fetched. (I wanted to hit Rob Smith as hard as possible, but Modern Talking would have been too hard for me then).
You describe it very well again. I perceive the "hectic drum computer" and nerve-synth-bass "as"dubual harassment ”.
Rob Smith has earned a lot of praise from me, almost a thank you, that he lets us feel the roots more and allows us this certain roots serenity. “Devid Getta” was supposed to prevent him from “finding” his old handwriting.
His "remake" from Dub I also think Syndicate, despite his handwriting, is quite good, but that's probably due to the unshakable foundation ;-)
Basically he always has a lot of oomph in the sound, but oomph is - for me - not everything.

So long………………… lemmi

Hehe, the "Dubxanne “by Rob Smith I haven't even commented yet, I just see. I found or find the original Dub Version of Police In Dub pretty good but I really didn't feel like Rob Smith's versions either.
Yes, we are in detail Dubheads actually often different. And also Dub is by far not always the same in detail (the same or ...?). That's what only the “detlef getter fans” say anyway and all those for whom music is just a fad.
I believe in DubWeekender would Ras Vorbei, You and I go to the bunk after 4 hours at the latest and take a neat nap, only to find out the next day that René is still busy ;-) ………………
You would probably be missed at DreadZone, because you would give it a wide berth, I think you know. I can't really interpret or define my own tastes, but I don't think we all really care about defining them.
Whether we are different "unfortunately" or "thank God" is almost a question of Fülosofü and normally I answer fülosofüsche questions on the side when doing business on the shaft, but in this case I find it difficult. I almost don't care about it now, but at the concert on Dub I would have Syndicate from everyone DubHead expects a permanent grin beyond any doubt ;-)

Which idiot actually invented work? ………………….
