I owe my reggae socialization in large part to a man: David Rodigan. In the 1980s he sent his two-hour radio show "Rodigans Rockers" to the living rooms of local reggae fans via BFBS. After that, it was part of the Kiss FM program for a long time, but it could not be received in Germany. After Kiss had postponed his reggae show to increasingly unattractive slots (it ended up being Sunday night at midnight), Rodigan announced and signed on to the BBC. Today his new show ran for the first time. Here in Germany you can follow it on the internet - and if you miss it, you can catch up on it on the BBC website. Memories are awakened. Welcome back!

I first came into contact with reggae in 1981,
I was 17 years old.
I knew Bob Marley and Judge Dread from the German charts.
but then at some point I was with a friend of mine.
He listened to an English station every Thursday: BFBS
At that time, John Peel's Music was still running for a short time.
Then I heard Black Uhuru Lee Perry and Linton Kwesi Johnson,
and was immediately totally thrilled.
Unfortunately, the show was cancelled and there was a
no more reggae for a long time.
BUT then suddenly there was Rodigans Rockers, 2 hours of the best reggae.
I immediately got myself a soundboard machine, an Akai X201D
with auto reverse.
So I was able to spend 1,5 hours on one page of the volume.
and thanks to autoreverse, had almost no
defects in the shipment.
Later I switched to a Revox G36, thanks to the
larger spools I could now record 3 hours per side.
I have recorded several hundred tapes of the show.
One of my hottest Rodigan moments was when Mr. Rodigan
a Bob Marley (RE)Mix played from several pieces
This song is an absolute rarity, the
I still have it in my archives today and it is not available for purchase anywhere!
Unfortunately, David Rodigan moved to Kiss FM, so it was
years of good reggae, but then
I discovered BBC 1 extra by chance and I
listen to every episode again.
Thanks to David Rodigan, I was able to find my former record dealer
( Membrane in the Herold Center )
really pissed me off, because I and my
Friends wanted records that weren't available in Germany.
I waited months for records I ordered.
At some point Rodigan played a song by Shinehead,
Billie Jean / Mama used to say as a mix, I had to have the record immediately.
I actually waited 6 months for the Maxi Single,
and my record dealer was really annoyed because I
I called almost every day to say that the disc was there.
I waited even longer for the Maxi from the Cimaroons,
Big Girls Dont Cry serviced as a picture disc.
Unfortunately, none of my tapes and vinyl records
more left because I gave them away due to lack of space.
But I have digitized some tapes and some
Episodes from the 80s as MP3.
Moin Tommy,
Is there any way to get the 80s MP3s mentioned?
Thanks & greetings,
John
