dr Israel: In Dub

And another Echo Beach Serious Classics release: Dr. Israel, "In Dub“(Echo Beach). The Doctor aka Douglas Bennett has been known to me since the 1990s, but I had a mixed relationship with his productions. The proximity of his sound to punk à la Bad Brains prevented me from identifying with his music. Until the 2000s, I ran into him again and again - especially on releases by the legendary Wordsound label, which sounds somewhere between trip hop and Dub was on the way and produced a lot of weird productions. Now Echo Beach is offering the Brooklyn cross-border commuter a retrospective that spans almost his entire oeuvre from 1998 to 2005. 15 selected tracks, some vocals, some Dubs, can be heard here. Inhomogeneous, surprising and quite challenging. Not exactly an easy listening experience, but more like one Dub-Excursion along the boundaries of the genre. Nice, the best of the Dr. To get Israel Oeuvres presented so competently curated.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Dr. Israel presents Dreadtone International “Patterns Of War” was the only thing I knew about him so far. It's not bad, but I usually only got something like that when there was otherwise a bit of calm Dubheaven was.
So now a tribute to him from Echo Beach. OK why not ?
The first Dub it's a real icing on the cake. Even though I actually hear a virus called Autotune. I really don't care here. Doesn't bother me in the least. The dose is almost homeopathic. The Dub convinces me with its groove and the wide open world of sound. This creates a lot of free space in my head in which all bad thoughts can get lost forever. Then comes “Tomorrow ...”, which is an example of why the disc can also be a challenge. That is certainly often skipped over. I don't like the album so much that I like every single one again Dub but would like to comment on “Equal Rights” or “Equal Dub“Encourages me to starve a little. The bassline screams for a comparison again. There are probably many examples, but the line reminds me of one of my ALL-TIME-FAVORITES from Prince Far I. “Throw away your Gun” or “Buds Bush” from “Showcase inna Suitcase” !!! Even if, for me, it calls for a comparison, I have to say very clearly that these Dr. Israel version doesn't even begin to stand up to comparison. I really just wanted to express who the bosses were, are and always will be when it comes to reggae. Should someone disagree, please don't give it to me to read ;-)
"Dubvivor “caught my eye in a very positive way, so that at least it is already in my playlist. There is definitely a lot more to discover, but challenges take time.

Yo! Thanks for the tip, Dirk!
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to hear more than the title track, "Another Day In Babylon," so far. It seems to be a whole album though...
Neither Spotify nor YouTube have anything else to offer. It's a nice and cool tune in the Nyabinghy style. I'm definitely in. But I'd need a better link to hear more. You can think I'm stupid, but I don't like guesswork. Especially not on a computer. I've checked YouTube and Spotify and couldn't find anything. So that's it for me for now.
"Dr. Israel in Dub I bought it on CD back then, even though my "review" of some of the tracks was rather mixed. It's still a mixed bag, but still a very good album, if I'm not mistaken. And while searching today, I also stumbled across "Patterns of War" again. It's been part of my patchy collection for a long time.
But it definitely convinced me that it absolutely has to go in the player again tonight. No matter how mixed the performance might be. Among the hard-to-digest tendons and cartilage, there are always some very "tasty" bits of fillet that are just begging to be enjoyed.

So long ……………… .. lemmi
