earlyW ~ Rm: Dub Device

Dub Device

I am always amazed at how diverse the genre is Dub is. Even a sub-genre, it should, according to logic, have a rather limited playing field. Of course, the principle is Dub universal in the sense of a remix, but also in its narrower sense, as a form of reggae Dub always new sounds and concepts emerge. The new album is a good example of this "Dub Device " (Renegade Media) by earlyW ~ Rm: although stricktly laptopDub, it opens up previously unheard of worlds of sound. The sound makes me think of large, clumsy, sluggish machines that stoically and inexorably do their rhythmic work. Each track looks like a short excerpt from an everlasting, sluggishly rolling beat. A section from infinity. Although from old schoolDub inspired, the sound has something futuristic about it: electronic sounds full of earthly weight - a delightful contrast.
The early worm produces its strangely post-industrial, retro-futuristic - sometimes vaguely reminiscent of Mad Professor - sounds in Toronto, where too Dubmatix is up to mischief. He created his first exactly 10 years ago Dubafter working his way through funk, R&B, acid jazz, house, and drum & bass. It took eight years until his debut album "Natty Droid" was finally released in 2011. The typical earlyW ~ Rm sound was already fully developed here, only the consistency with which he pours it into rhythms is on "Dub Device “even more pronounced. A fascinating album, and I really hope we'll get to hear a lot more from earlyW ~ Rm before the early bird eats it.

My verdict: Although stricktly laptopdub, it opens up unheard worlds of sound. Each track is like a snippet from a perpetual, slow rolling beat.
my rating: 8,5 (out of 10)
