Oh, now it gets even better...
Apple is for the elite or those who consider themselves to be so.
Or it's just to make sure I don't write a comment about it.
Hi Lemmi,
I actually think that more often too!
However ... the good piece (and I think it's really good and rhythmically diverse) with a whopping 23 tracks (11 songs with 11 versions and 10 different vocal talents + Lee 'Scratch' Perry :-)) is available for purchase on Bandcamp, as well as on steppas.com.
It is quite annoying that these links are not mentioned here!
Ok, got it! Thanks Rootsmessenger!
It's on Spotify "now" too. Unfortunately, I can't really rant about the album as much as I would normally. You really like it and I know what it's like when I really like a record and someone else says or writes that they don't like it that much or at all. "For me, he or she is just an idiot" ;-) .... (not meant entirely seriously, of course, but not completely out of thin air either
grabbed ) ….
I hope you do as I do and make yourself comfortable on your throne and continue to enjoy the record with a sublime smile while I describe my “bad vibes” about the album.
Now and then the Alpha Steppa has managed to get me excited, but mostly it is like this. Throughout the entire album (with one exception) I can't handle the bass lines or the booming sound of the bass at all. And if the bass isn't right (for me) then the whole thing is actually no good. DubTune nix. The bass is the most important thing in every reggae and therefore DubTune. But you are also right when you write that the album is diverse. It does not only consist of the pure Steppa “banging” that we are mainly used to from him. But now I have the problem that, for example, “Mirror Mirror” and
"Room Of Dub“ seems much too slow to me. I'd rather not say anything about Joe Jorke as a singer. It just doesn't work for me.
I don't need the others either. Only Ras Tinny, who unfortunately only speaks in the interlude, has the charisma that I apparently need so that I have nothing to complain about.
But there is also such a Dub, which I had to add to my favorites list because I think it's really great.
"Outta Dub“ is totally my thing. When the BiassLine is really grooving, I don’t mind the drone anymore and only then do I start to get an idea of the other elements in the Dubtune. I don't do it on purpose, it just happens...
It may be that if I listened to the album more often I would discover more that I like, but with such “droning bass” from the “tin can” my desire for more rotations is simply not very strong. But I already have another Dub discovered for myself, which made it onto my favorites list."Dub Breaker II" is also really cool, if I am not mistaken. The effects and the sampled (?) DubGames are thus much more easily brought into my consciousness. It may also be that the Ligerians have a large part in this DubTune really grooved for me. Their bass lines have often inspired me to my “DubPoint" and gives me great satisfaction. The bass sound, however, sounds a little too plastic to me, although it is more or less like vinyl to other plastic floating in the ocean. There is also plastic with spirit. Spiritual
Plastic – “Black Magic Plastic” ;-)
Ok Rootsmessenger … I hope I haven’t spoiled your mood and you are still sitting on your Dubthrone and enjoys the disc with the sublime grin of a DubConnoisseurs, who floats far above what is otherwise called music ;-)
“Me say ROOTS me say DUB me say REGGAE!” ……………….. lemmi
Ah, sorry! I wanted to mention that I also feel personally addressed by the album title.
“Collision of an Ancient Mind and a Modern World”
That's how I feel day and night ……………….. lemmi
Oh man, you wrote that beautifully. But it's not me, but the Alpha Steppa who has his throne with me. Of course I understand if one or the other has problems with the bass sound. It just has me hooked... must have something to do with the family... I also like the "Steppa-banging" and basically most things from Aunt & Dad = Alpha & Omega. I can't get away from it :-)
But most “digital” things tend to remain a side note for me, handmade things always rules :-)
