One response to “Dixie Peach & Disciples: Roots Showcase, Vol. 3”
I'm still not really familiar with Dixie Peach. I read about Volume 2 and how much I liked Volume 1, too.
I also like Vol.3 both as a vocal – as well as DubAlbum, but it also gives me the opportunity to settle accounts with something that has been bothering me quite badly in the recent past. "It's about" the remake of Papillon. But I'll come to that in a moment. With "Armagideon" by "Black Heart Man," a remake is already doomed from the start. No other lyrics help, and the remake then "Upliftment" or "DubCalling it a "liftment" doesn't really help either. If Bunny Wailer's original didn't exist, I wouldn't find anything negative about the new version, but now that there's this comparison, I have to say, for me, it wouldn't have been necessary at all. The original is and remains far superior to the remake, and so the remake is even superfluous in my opinion.
It's a similar story with "Papillon." I was eagerly awaiting the remake, and when I finally got to see it, I realized that cinematography is also rapidly declining. Without the original, I could easily let the remake drizzle by on a Saturday night, but I know the original, so the remake is completely out of the question for me.
The casting alone, with Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen in the lead roles, makes it seem as if they were taken over by amateur actors in the remake. The "remakers", in contrast, have a charisma like a naked mole rat in total darkness. Nothing comes across. I can only cry about the "off-colors", especially in European films. But even Hollywood can no longer match the old quality of the colors and the lavish sets. Look at Ben-Hur! There hasn't been a single remake of that that is even remotely successful. (No mistake!!!). Yes; and with the remake of Papillon, I had the feeling that the whole film was shot on the set of Lindenstraße with a private camera for VHS tapes to "save money". Sad! Boring! Cheap! and hastily thrown together.
“Woe, di woe, di woe its the armagideon” ……………………. lemmi
