What should I do ?!
Haris Pilton is always good in my book! Sometimes he's just good, and other times he's absolutely top-notch. Here on "Balkan Uptown Rockers," his entire rhythmic foundation is, for the most part, just as I've come to expect from him – superb.
Dubeffects and DubThe atmosphere is – as always – right up my alley! I've had my eye on the melodica for quite some time now. To make things easier for the translation app, I'll write it again: the melodica has been heavily criticized by me for at least 15 years, not to say completely "out of favor." But when it only appears as an occasional accompaniment, I'm perfectly fine with it. Of course, I don't know the album inside and out yet, but I would summarize it by saying that the melodica sometimes takes center stage, sometimes less so. I can't say at all yet how it will affect me with repeated listens. I can only say that I've often lifted the needle from the vinyl before the end of an Augustus Pablo LP because this "childish" instrument just doesn't really impress me and often even annoys me. So please don't overdo it. Whether it's too much for me here, I can't say yet. My initial overall impression, however, is: That's fine! Occasionally, some DubHaris Pilton's writing style strikes me as somewhat hectic, a sentiment I feel reinforced here with "Red Gold Black and Green." But perhaps he's specifically targeting young people, who have to live in a very fast-paced world and have probably long since adapted to it. I've noticed for a long time that today's youth—on average—speak much faster.
However, I still often doubt whether she thinks faster.
Then there is DubTunes like "Heavyweight Manners," which I've known for a very long time under a different name and with different lyrics, and which I always enjoy from Lee Perry. "Zion Blood" is always awesome!!! No matter how many times I've heard it, whether as Dub – or vocal version! And I'm also very happy to add this reinterpretation by Harris Pilton to my list of favorites. The same goes for "Holy Organizer," which I also received from Lee Perry Productions as "Dub "Organizer" is very memorable and keeps resurfacing. There might be other well-known riddims on "Balkan Uptown Rockers," but I've only mentioned the ones that immediately resonated with me. Speaking of "Babylon"...
Of course, I have to complain a little again. Haris Pilton knows that I absolutely can't stand any "chimbelen" (tinkling, tinny sound). Therefore, it certainly won't shock him if I now add that "Windpower Skank" is still well within my comfortable frequency range, and the DubTune overall as well.
So... and now I'm going to play the "hater"! A good one
"Dub"Friendship" has to withstand that.
The "hissing" (gezimbele) in "Sunset Reggae" is a minus for me!
In my opinion, this is a recording error, but not in a technical sense, rather in a spiritual sense. And then I actually hear the melody of "Sunshine Reggae" by Laid Back!
Haris! Are you serious? ;-) No offense, Haris, but here's a little anecdote to help you understand my not-so-serious question even better.
My best friend left me all his records. He had more
On U Sound records, better than I could have ever dreamed of back then. That's just to underline what good taste he already had back then.
Okay, at some point I took a sampler out of his record box with some pretty decent reggae. Luckily, when I put the vinyl on the turntable, I didn't miss the fact that the last track on the side had been completely "Xed up" by him, two or three times with a thumbtack or even a nail. It was a jumble of crosses, deeply scratched exclamation marks, and even "!!! laid back !!!"
I had a good laugh about it and basically haven't stopped to this day. NO! We really don't need laid-back attitudes right now!!!
Definitely not me.

I'm also a fan of his, and I enjoy listening to his music.
