Haris Pilton: The Cursed Stripper Mermaids of Dread Lagoon

It's pretty obvious that this work by Haris Pilton and Chantelle Morgan really resonates with me. There's a lot to read about the album on Bandcamp. Among other things, there's information that Chantelle Morgan is something like a, or rather the first DubWoman in DubCircus of the 70s in Jamaica. She also apparently revived her old label and made it clear that she has very good connections to possibly even Jamaican musicians.
But if you're interested, you should read it all yourself, as I don't want to give a complete summary of the text here.
I only understood it because of the great technology with the translation program from the Internet.
But it also says that Chantelle brings a certain discipline and warmth into the DubMixes that are almost forgotten these days. Yes, discipline and warmth are all well and good, but it perhaps also explains why I suspected, especially with the Steppa – or 4 to the flour – riddims, that they might not be just instrumentals. Upon rechecking the sound and albums, I was able to find out a bit more. DubEffects and above all DubAtmosphere. I really started to get into it when
“Lost Treasure.” This is a double whammy with
“Gezeitenwende” (“Tide Turn”). A common Bandcamp phenomenon has also resurfaced on this album. DubThe tune after "Lost Treasure" was recorded extremely quietly, and for me, that has nothing to do with discipline or warmth. It was simply messed up, if I'm not mistaken. If something like that happened on record or vinyl, I'd send it back. Yes, I've gotten a bit nasty about this. I don't mean to criticize the album's producers, but rather the "typical computer" superficiality that unfortunately manifests itself all too often in content and seemingly arbitrary censorship.
Ok, the album consists of mostly energetic SteppaDubs. And my comments "against" this BumBum... riddim lead me to conclude that I don't really like the album all that much. No! I especially like the cheerfulness and positive energy that is inherent in all the riddims, and the use of wind instruments and the accompanying melodies create an intense feeling of happiness in me.
But "Lost Treasure" shows me once again that it is much more effective to set the tidal current in motion with a massive lever that reaches to the moon and beyond. Steppa-Dub To me it looks more like lots of little children trying to push a huge ship against the tide with their little wildly paddling hands.
No offense to all the "SteppaHeads." Steppa is also awesome and has had its place since the origins of reggae. Although I also think that the OneDrop is, so to speak, the quintessence of the Jamaican primordial soup. Mento and all that stuff (apart from ska) don't belong to the primordial soup of Jamaican music for me, but rather in a breakfast bowl with oatmeal and trail mix.
Mmmm, I seem to be losing my mind again. The AI probably won't understand this sentence, but nobody is born a master, and it doesn't hurt to occasionally show computers their limitations.
Mind you, it is far from my intention to talk about Steppe-Dub to blaspheme. I just tried to explain again why One-Drop and
A bass drum that isn't slammed through can generate significantly more perceived power. Actually, one-drop is almost too little for me as a rhythm variation. My "top thing" when it comes to drum rhythms
Sly Dunbar and especially Style Scott were born. If you know what I mean?! Carlton Barrett, Desi Jones, Leroy "Pferdemund" Wallace, and Carlton "Santa" Davis also contributed, but I didn't mention them first because they haven't appeared on nearly as many reggae tunes as Sly and Style. If I'm not mistaken, that is.
Phew, sometimes I wonder if a simple “like” might have been better.

So far for now ………………… lemmi

Greetings! Lemmi, you're exaggerating ;)...easy go.

I personally find it really bad to listen to!
Sounds 100000% like AI/AI whatever you named to me, but I don't think it sounds like a human is "singing" or whatever that's supposed to be. Very bad riddim, exaggerated FX that the AI mixes together, and yes, producers these days can disguise everything and make it look/sound like their own music. For me, it's a medium to severe disaster and an insult to reggae/roots/dub...

Sorry, Lemmi, I know you love him, but I hear it differently. I've never been a fan of Harris, even though I listen to almost everything.

well, it is what it is and in the end it doesn't matter ;)!

High Fawkes!

As you already wrote, “in the end it (unfortunately) doesn’t matter.” It’s “just” music, but try telling that to Lee Perry or someone else.
(Jamaican) music producers who always said something like “music can change everything” or something like that…
I always considered that to be a bit exaggerated. But just because reggae hasn't changed anything for the better in the world (see the current wars), that doesn't mean that things wouldn't be much worse without it. For me, at least, anyone who doesn't like reggae because they don't feel it can't follow me. And so, it can also happen that there are people who don't Dub like and some also like the Dubs by Haris Pilton. I like, for example, the "Dubs" from Alpha and Omega, and to a very large extent from Zion Train, too. I can't (and don't want to) do anything about it. Besides, there are always exceptions.
What I find particularly interesting, however, is that you too seem to have problems distinguishing Ki Mucke from artistic music created by human creativity. I'm simply a music fan, and because there is no music anywhere on this planet that is even remotely as good as reggae and Dub, I don't really need any other music. As far as I know, fans are more or less fanatical in a certain way (that's why we're fans, if I'm not mistaken). Fans wave flags, sing and laugh loudly and often have an over-the-top hormone release when their own team has just scored an important goal or even won the Champions League. Unfortunately, this can sometimes go too far and in my case it manifests itself in comments that are perhaps, at times, "just a tiny bit" exaggerated. Here and there I am too detailed in the wrong place and then very superficial in others. I'm, even for my taste, too "detail-oriented" here, and I'm sure I don't need to tell you anything about "fan culture," but as long as no one explicitly and bluntly writes that it "frustrates" them (yes, that just goes to show how difficult this nitpicking can get in the details), I can't and won't change anything. And you, too, gave me a sign with your little smiley, which I don't interpret as meaning I should stop my "shit." I'm a person who doesn't need much rejection to finally leave, because my affection can quickly reach its limits. Of course, there are many people who can't even begin to understand my enthusiasm for reggae, but I'm sure they're not reading this. And if they do, that might already be a good step in the right direction to save the world. Yes, that sounds exaggerated, too. I can feel it, but I can't change it ;-)

“An insult to Reggae/Roots and Dub“. Well, that sounds to me as a fan (also of Haris Pilton) as a bad
"INSUFFERANCE." And I can't relate to that in the slightest. But if that's how you feel, then that's just how it is. Whatever.
There is a common saying, “he who dishes out must also be able to take it” and so we now come to “your real problem” ;-)
You write, you produce every single day yourself. And anyone who expresses such harsh criticism is, of course, under "special observation." And you are thus essentially a flawless, beyond all doubt, Dub, downright obliged. Otherwise, the lemmi will most likely write something like “catastrophic music, an insult to reggae and Dub". I still suspect that you wrote it that way to hit me in some way. Perhaps to bring me down from my "commentary throne" a little. I'm just afraid that you hit Haris Pilton much harder than me.
As a fan of DubMusic and especially from Haris Pilton, I really have to write that it is a complete mystery to me how one can DubI can't like it. But many things that exist here on earth are a mystery to me...
Despite my "indignation" and lack of understanding of your perception of Haris Pilton, I'm very grateful that you've challenged me a bit. That's what makes this really interesting. Besides, any criticism (including of me) is normally a small step for humanity, but a giant leap for me. ("Unfortunately," I'm very resistant to criticism—or rather, advice—but nothing could be impossible...).

“That’s why I’m sitting on a throne of gold”………………. lemmi

As I said, I expressed my thoughts/criticism on this in a slightly exaggerated way, slightly humorously (just my own), and didn't mean to offend anyone in the serious sense. I just wanted to say to Harris, yeah, I don't really like your music, and this album in particular ;). And Lemmi, I really like your brand of fandom and always find your comments amusing. You really have some good tips and knowledge.

If I had asked "cutely" is this project possibly AI/AI there would be half as much going on here, haha ;)

And even if I claim and say something like that, do I have to prove it? – I don't think so!
As I said, next time nothing from me or very polite, factual and formal.

big up one and all – only love!

High Fawkes! (I'm just politely asking if my nickname is okay with you. I thought of it because of Anonymous – Anonymous and the reference to "V for Vendetta"… I know, that's obvious.)
If anyone is familiar with “slightly exaggerated” comments, then I’m definitely on board. I can’t and don’t want to do it any other way. This isn’t the Bundestag or a European Parliament session, after all. Although we’ve seen far worse exaggerations and, above all, complete derailments since the AfD was in the Bundestag. I don’t mean to say, however, that it’s only the AfD fuzzies who are completely crazy. (AND! If you can now get a prison sentence – albeit an initial suspended sentence – for caricatures – whether funny or not – then I’m beginning to doubt whether we even need the AfD to abolish democracy anymore. You can certainly think about saying “DuDu! That’s not how you do things”, but a prison sentence for something like that…???!!!
I think it's starting!!! This is a disgrace!!! Just as disgraceful as being criminalized and sometimes even imprisoned for cannabis use. The way psychopaths have perceived it as justice here for at least the past 60 years.
In any case, I'm not into stuffy, completely correct babble, and for me, that especially includes this shitty gender stuff. I'm already getting myself into something I didn't even want to go into, but when things get heated, it won't be long before they boil over. Okay, "come down, lemmi,
come down”.
You write, "I personally find it really bad." In my opinion, that absolves you of any obligation to provide evidence. I always try to emphasize that this is about MY PERCEPTION and not about any "alternative facts." And you've even explained your feelings. I know nothing about "fx-ses" and all those computer tools. I prefer analog. But ultimately, I don't care (and "conshita" to be exact). When I get the urge, I go all out and try to put it into words.
If something doesn't really grab me, I try to describe it or even explain why. Usually, it's because the basslines just don't reach me. But the bias lines from Jamaica don't just reach me; they cleanse my blood and enrich it with immune defenses. Yes, a little "going wild" is part of it for me ;-) African basslines, like those from the Jamaicans from Hinglan, also have the right character to excite me.
Europeans are better at colonizing, Russians, well, you can see that right now, and the New Zealanders are just a flash in the pan. In other words... No! I'm not going to bother you with my "black and white"...
Yes... and I, too, was really surprised by the voice—mmmm, how should I say it?—my head even sank between my shoulders for a moment because everything inside me was somehow shrinking a little. But then
“Lost Treasure” and I even thought I heard Linval Thompson’s voice for a moment and so I kind of got off the whole “vocals” topic.
I don’t want to “influence” you or anyone else
but that you have the riddims... I can only write that in brackets, otherwise I can't say it ;-)...
(very bad) really blows me away. Firstly, they are really original Jamaican bias lines and - as you can read on Bandcamp - riddims recorded by a band from Jamaica. I'm also going off on a tangent here, but I personally find not liking bias lines from Jamaica to be "illogical". I would even go so far as to say that they are direct inspiration from the very heart of creation. In other words, in my opinion they could only have been sent to Earth by JAH himself. Although JAH has been here and everywhere for a long time anyway, since he is in every atom, holding the atomic nucleus together at its core and seems to give every substance in the universe its meaning through the arrangement of the electron orbits. That hasn't been fully proven yet, but one can still believe in something. In any case, I didn't make it up, Max Planck did, and he was certainly no idiot. I believe I learned from Albert Einstein that it's important for everyone to choose the right transmitter, or rather, to tune their own receiver (the brain) to the right frequency so that they receive the right, good information. The African Jamaicans and the Africans in Africa have tuned their brains to the right frequency. I can't prove it, but I can feel it in every cell of my body.
Ok, I've drifted "a little" again, but that's just the outward appearance, because in the end everything belongs together, if Einstein and Buddha weren't wrong ;-)
I would be happy if you continue to share your feelings with us, because as you already wrote, “otherwise there is only half as much going on here” ;-)

“A knife a fork a bottle and a cork, that’s the way we spell New York”

Whatever that means, I think it's great …….. lemmi

Oh! I'd like to clarify. I'm not "talking" about Einstein and Max Planck here to appear a bit smarter. No! I am smarter!!! Even if I can hardly believe it myself. Now I'm doubting again, but doubt is, after all, a characteristic of intelligent people... (Shit, how am I going to come down from my high-flying galactic journey now...)

Haha, wow 10000% Ai? That's some next-level confidence?
I assume you've never produced a single track yourself… because if you had, you'd probably know that real music takes hours of work, a unique workflow, and actual know-how not just clicking “generate.” Specially to get the sound I do. I think Ai can't do that sound and effects.
Trust me, if AI could make what I make, I'd be chilling on a beach while my laptop drops dubs.
But nope, every riddim, FX tweak, and mix is handcrafted by yours truly Haris (you like it or not).
Since you're so sure though… how about we spice it up? Let's bet €1000 that my tracks are human-made. You in? ? Or that you try to make with Ai song like some from the album in my flow, style and with hari's fingerprint….
& no hard feelings everyone's got their taste – but please don't be a party breaker or a hater….

Hi Haris
thanks for your straight statement! And I'm sure “Anonymous” just wanted to provoke you… he even can't subscribe with his name!
Most important that I can tell I opinion but always stay kind and respectful.
It's always easy to say something and to accuse someone of something, but this point has now been clarified enough.
Blessings and thanks…

Easy Lions!

It's nice that it's not an AI. I'm glad to hear that and I trust you. But in my eyes and taste, it's “bad” or not good. If anyone felt offended, sorry, I didn't, although opinions and thoughts can also be offensive. Sometimes it's better to be quiet ;)..
However, have fun with dubbing!

“rasta, never gamble about money” or do clashy things!

Oh and by the way I produce man every single day…

Heyii man, no, don't stay quiet, it's welcome to know your opinion… and let us hear some of your productions… would be nice!
Big up…
