Jimmy Riley: Rydim Driven Deluxe (Showcase)

One response to “Jimmy Riley: Rydim Driven Deluxe (Showcase)”

I had to double-check to see if I hadn't mistaken my feeling, but yes, it's true! "Riddim Driven" by Jimmy Riley is from 1981! So, I was "officially" into it for about a year, and this album was among my first 1 to 50 records. Back then, I was still there "live" when new music came out of Jamaica.
A very good example of how I can melt away when I hear “LoversRock”. I still love this album as much as I did the first day, and this morning, just like 45 years ago and all the years in between, I got the worst goosebumps when I heard “I wish it would rain”. The whole album, but especially “I wish it would rain”, makes me feel completely soft and tame, like a docile lamb. I practically turn into spreadable clarified butter and surrender to the feeling of happy love. And even if this is a bit far-fetched, I have to say that I really do wish for rain, especially at this time of year.
Well, that's it. If I use this Deluxe Showcase version with the DubWhen I look at my glasses, tears come to my eyes. DubI find these versions so boring that they have led me to verbal derailments like “Sly and Robbie can’t Dubs“ misled me. How could I write something like that? Well, anyone who DubVersions here also pretty boring, now knows what I thought I was talking about. I can't explain in the slightest why this is so, but there is simply no magical Dubfeeling. Maybe it's just me. I can't reconcile this constant "tapping" of a Sly Dunbar special drum effect – or whatever – with a mystical DubSound, let alone DubBring your feelings into harmony. Occasionally it beeps and... oh, let's forget about it... there are much better Dubthan this one from Sly and Robbie.
But I still think it’s very good to have the deluxe album here in DubBlog
to have introduced it, because the disco mixes alone are a long-awaited treat for many people.
I continue to be content with my now almost 45-year-old
VocalAlbum, because I can't just give up on such a long-term relationship, no matter how hard I try.
