The official release date is March 28th, but the full album can already be listened to on Bandcamp – why should it be kept from the community?
I & I like!
Be abstinent with such fine DubIt sounds like refusing food from a Michelin-starred chef. The food will be cold by the release date! Who can resist that?
Once again, an hour of commuting has become absolute quality time, thank you!
I have the impression that the album is a compilation of the best of the Line Ark Studio. Some of the riddims are older and have also beendubIt has been played, "if I'm not mistaken" (to quote Haji Halef Omar Ben Haji Abul Abbas Ibn Haji Dawuhd al-Gossarah). I have to listen to it again this evening. But its fame in no way diminishes the immense joy and pleasure that Roberto has once again given me. Greetings
Interesting. I also had the impression of recognizing one or two of the riddims during the first few listens... If you find something tonight, I'd love for you to share your discoveries. Thanks!
But of course, if you share every discovery, that can only be an example for me.
So far, the evening has given me a massive sound experience listening to the Lone Ark productions (and I've also inaugurated my new speakers. Perfect that it's all coming together so well!).
I know riddims 2, 6 and 7 from the Alpheus album “Good prevails”:
Riddim 5 comes from a Ras Teo album (maybe even a version?), as can be seen from the two verses. But without a chorus... ??? Does anyone know the title?
By the way, Africa is rising dub My favorite of the Soul Rebel album. Each instrument gets a front row seat at the beginning for a sequence, practically an introduction, the essence. Very minimal and understated, so that each other can develop to its full potential during the tune without disturbing the other sequence (=harmony?), and thus, a wonderful tension and effect is created by the end. Unfortunately, the end could be more beautiful than the fade-out. Because what could be more minimal and deeper than a few more bars of the solo bass carrying the riddim, to get back to the beginning? Where this succeeds almost perfectly is with Dub House riddim (https://dubblog.de/acoustic-vibes-dub-the-palace-prince-back-home/), where the bass can at least stop.
But to get to the album Soul riddim in Dub to return to a sound reminiscent of the old days: one producer, various artists. Except that the producer sometimes makes up half the backing band. Big respect, Mr. Sanchez!
PS: I'd be very interested to know what 10 Ft. Ganja Plant is doing? Are the musicians still around?
Thanks Giovanni, I hadn't noticed Alpheus' album until now...
Unfortunately, I haven't found any other well-known riddims that are reworked here (or on the vocal album "Soul Rebel")...
Hi Giovanni,
Thank you very much for your additions. I think it's really good when every reader contributes their knowledge here.
"PS: I'd be very interested to know what 10 Ft. Ganja Plant is doing? Are the musicians still around?"
The band is celebrating its 25th anniversary and seems to be playing live again. Giovanni, check this out: https://www.10ftganjaplant.com/
Please also note the luminary on the soundboard.
Once again for clarification:
I'm well aware that half of my readers are female! Nevertheless, I consciously avoid using gender-specific forms in my texts to improve their readability. However, that doesn't mean I don't advocate for gender equality. So, even if I don't explicitly address every gender, I mean all of them!
Thanks for the hint, Ras Vorbei:-)! Unfortunately, this is immediately followed by a slight annoyance, as only three gigs are planned in the US. Hopefully, there will be a live album soon, or perhaps a tour of Europe, otherwise it will become a bigger annoyance, because this combination promises the greatest listening pleasure and bliss.
