One response to “Skin Flesh and Bones: Dub in Blood“
Even if the DubConnoisseurs of the first hours are hopefully not turning in their graves, I must admit that here we have another example that would not have led me to something like a DubTo become a fan. And, mind you, from my point of view, you can clearly find a lot of basslines and bass melodies here that can't hold a candle to the basslines from Jamaica, even though they do come from Jamaica. I knew that Skin Flash and Bones were once something like the "non plus ultra" in reggae, and so I listened attentively until track 8, when I finally had to check who was smoking such bad weed. Boring riddims and a stone-cold, almost German-correct engineer who is aware of the effect and possibilities of Dub was not yet clear. And what must or may I read? Engineer Ernest Hookim! Mixed by Oswald Hibbert! Who exactly is responsible for what, I cannot say, but it could be that a great mystery is slowly being solved for me. I believe the "culprits" for boring Dubs from Jamaica. And yet I find “Doctor Dub“, “Oversized Dub“ and especially “Bandwagon Dub“ really great!
Perhaps the grass was something like a “latecomer.”
